I see you're using dvdshrink, so you must be trying to get it all on a single layer dvd....I do just the movie to increase the quality of the movie...the more extra stuff that needs to be compressed (menus, bonus features, etc...), the lower the overall quality...just my opinion

I backup the full DVD myself.

But I use DVD Rebuilder and CCE to encode it which gives me a better quality backup using that rather then what DVD Shrink/CloneDVD2/Recode2 would give me.

Using a transcoder like DVD Shrink or 1 mentioned above would really depend on a few things. The size of the DVD and the size of the TV it is played on. The larger the DVD is the more it will have to compress. The larger the TV screen the easier it will be to notice low bit-rate video.

A few things you can do to prevent this and still keep the menu. Would be to delete all extras on the DVD and all previews it may contain. Delete all unwanted subtitles. Delete unwanted audio tracks (DTS if you do not have a DTS decoder/Commentary audio if you do not want to use the commentary) Delete an aspect ratio title if the DVD includes both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio.

I would recommend if you want to keep everything on the DVD with nothing edited to use DVD Rebuilder with an encoder(I use CCE). That defiantly gives it the quality it deserves even on my 67in Big Screen.

So it really comes down to what the person wants on the DVD plus what kind of home entertainment system they have. So look at your situation and ask the same question. What do you want kept on the DVD. How big is your TV and how big is the DVD you are backing up and make your choices from there.

Also just for your information I see you have Nero and Roxio listed as programs that you have installed. They have been known to conflict with each other. So it is best to use either or of the programs and not both. So if you find yourself having problems the best thing for you to do is to uninstall both programs and download cleaning programs for both to uninstall all traces of the programs then reinstall whatever program of the 2 you choose.
