First I want to say Happy New year and I hope your 2007 is great!!!

I am new to PS2 modding and would like to be able to play backups. I was looking for a good option and I found MagicKeys II. It looks simple and the price is great. Can somebody share their thoughts? I would like to avoid opening the machine.

SwapMagic Discs 3.6 are included when I buy it. What are these for? Do I need them?

I have a PS2 slim which I think is version 13 (SCPH-77001). Thanks everyone.

The keys are useless without swap magic, the magic keys only trick the ps2 into thinking that the lid of the ps2 is still closed. What you do is you insert the swap magic disk(dvd version for loading a dvd-r/dvd+r backup, or cd version for loading a cd-r backup), then once swap magic loads, you swap the disk with the backup/import. And your ready to play, let me know if you need more info.

I thought thats how it works. Will my PS2 be able to play DVD-R and +R or is one kind better. How do I know if my game is a dvd or cd?

The first thing I want to do is back up the Swap Magic discs just in case. Is that possible? I assume that one is on a cd and the other a dvd?

Yep, ones on a cd, and ones on a dvd, you can back them up, however you cant use the backups, since once again, you have a copy, which needs to be run, using either an original copy of swap magic or another soft mod, or a mod chip.
Most dvd games on the ps2, have a silver surface, and cd games on the ps2, have a blue surface. Some ps2's read -R better than +R or vice versa, however it depends, my slimline reads all disks with no problems, have had it since the slimline was released, and have had no issues with any sort of media.
