Hi,
My PS2 has an old Mod chip and won't play newer games. A friend has Swap magic 3.6, and suggested I should use back up of his Swap magic 3.6, and use it to boot and use an external USB HD for new games.
Will Swap Magic back up work with old Mod chip, and USB HD.

It should. Unless your modchip is really that bad.
But since you already got a mod.
Look up usbadvance and download that, and burn it to cd.
That is what is needed to play games off a usb hdd. You shouldnt need swap magic.

Now the problem you will have is if the games are even compatible with usb hdd. (There is only like 5-10% games compatible through usb hdd.)

Or, if you have an older fat ps2, a better option is to use an internal hd, and hdloader/hdadvance.
