i am not sure which DVD discs to use . ive tried DVD-RW ... and DVD+RW and none of them are detected . i know DVD-RAM are detected too . but i have a DVD+R disc with a film that is detected too but shouldnt DVD+RW be detected also ????

and is there any software to help?

It's a DVD-RAM burner, so use DVD-RAM discs only. It will read other disc formats also, but not write to them.
