I am so pissed off.

This is the second batch of DVD-Rs from RitekG04 wich are x4, and still can't write at more than 2x. WTF is wrong here. My Drive is Retail Pioneer A05, firmware 1.33B, downloaded from the Aussie Pioneer Web site, and the DVD-R media details, extraced with DVD DEcrypte, ISO mode is as follows.

--------------------------------------------

Device Information:
Current Profile: DVD-R

Disc Information:
Status: Empty
Erasable: No
Sessions: 1
Sectors: 2,147,483,648
Size: 4,398,046,511,104 bytes
Time: 477218:37:23 (MM:SS:FF)
Free Sectors: 2,297,888
Free Space: 4,706,074,624 bytes
Free Time: 510:40:38 (MM:SS:FF)

Pre-recorded Information:
Manufacturer ID: RITEKG04

Physical Format Information:
Book Type: DVD-R
Part Version: 5
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: 10.08Mbps
Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
Track Density: 0.74 um/track

--------------------------------------------

So can any one tell me what prevents me from burning RitekG04 at 4x speed. Do i have to specifically buy Pioneer x4 DVD-Rs to achieve 4x speed. Damn, I have yet to see my drive burning DVD-R at 4x the speed . Or do i have to get some kind of hacked firmware so my Pioneer A05 will finally burn 4x the speed.

This really sucks.

P.S. I am using RecordNow Max 4.5, and I had the A05 since December 2002. I had it imported it from the US to Canada. I think the company that i got it from was was WWW.TAPE-PRO.com

Any one else has a suggestion.

The only other thing is to try a different program.

What program do you use sly for burning your DVD-R's. I thought RecordNow Max 4.5 was the best program for burning. The only other program i can think of is Nero, but People say it has issues, so i dont really want to try it, unless for sure its the RecordNow program thats causing the problem. Any one know other programs for burning other than Nero or RecordNow Max.

Thanks.

Record Now Deluxe may work better:

I have a pioneer 105 firmware 1.30 using Record Now Max
Ritek g04s burn at 4x (15~16 minutes)
Perhaps you just got a bad batch.

Yo Oriphus, is Record Now DX better? I got that with my sony burner but thinking it was some cheapie freebie I used Max instead.

But then again I never had a problem with Max (on either burner) so I probably won't be switching. I'm just curious.

Maybe its my A05 Burner. Maybe its defective, and it doesn't allow me to burn at more than 2x. But i will have 1 last thing to do, and that is to buy Pioneer's 4x media and try that. And if it fails there too, then i know that my drive is one f**ked up piece of sh*t.

Also, Oriphus the RecordNow Max Delux version, that you mentioned in another post, who makes it, and do they have trial version of it as well. I know stomp makes RecordNow max, but you said also not to use Stomp and instead use Veritas. What does Veritas make, i went to their web site, and there is nothing on their site that has anything referencing RecordNow Max.

Ok peace out.

Hi, Tosca i find record Now Deluxe more reliable, even though Max was excellent. Deluxe is actually just the replacement for Max.

mhatip, i use Record Now Deluxe by veritas as i beleive it is the better product. Myself and a few others had problems with the Stomp version and switched. I think there is a free trial of it, though buying it would be a best buy fr me. try here:

Hey Oriphus, was your problem with Stomp Speed related, i.e. didn't achieve 4x or something of that sort, or other related problem.

Also, does it matter, where my drive is connected, such as, to be alone on an EIDE connector, or SCSI adaptor.

Txs.

which OS are you using, I've found that burning with dvd dycrptor using G04s differs depending on OS, no idea why, but in win2000 G04s will not burn higher than 2x, burning in 98se and you get 4x speed no problem. But then you have to to use FAT32, so I tend to stick to 2000 and put up with 2x.

The sony dru 500 won't burn g04s at 4x, so don't bother. Get the 1x instead, as it'll burn it at 2x.

!!! I finally Found out what the problem was !!!

Thanks for all your help. I think some one suggested me that i should change the IDE connector of my drive and see if that helps(probably might have been Orphius). I remember when i got my A05 i also got a IDE Controller Card to connect my additional drive cause my PC was already packed to the top with 3 hardrives and 1 DVD-ROM, 1 CD-RW and finally the A05. So all this time i had my A05 connected to the IDE controller Card. After swapping my A05 back to the motherboard's IDE connecter, and the other DVD/CD-ROM drives to the controller card, MY PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. Although for some reason now my DVD-ROM drive wont read DVD media from the IDE Controller card but only it will recognize CD media. But to be honest i dont care anymore as long as my A05 works and burns at 4x speed, thats all i care. And for the DVD-ROM drive, I will just use it as another CD drive.

So thanks to all your input i finally solved my problem why my drive only burned at 2x speed prior to switching to the mother boards IDE connector. At first i thought it was the media, like Ritek but it wasn't. Then i tried different sofware like Veritas RecordNow Max DX, Prassi, and stomp's recordmax and that didn't help either. Finally i thought it was my Drive that was deffective and i was ready to buy another DVD burner but this time it wouldn't have been Pioneer's Drive. So i said to my self, ok let me give it a one last try and try swapping the drives and see what happens. And what do you know, BINGO !!!

OK thats all for now. I hope others who are having trouble not to give up, and keep ask question and give feed back on what they found out through their experience so other could be helped.

CIAO.
Regards.

Glad your sorted. Next step is to get the RPC 1 Firmware 1.33 upgrade so that you can rip movies around 7x instead of 2x, which is pretty slow!

I used that 1.33 firmware upgrade for the pioneer 105 direct from the pioneer site, but still my traxdata g03's burn at 1 speed instead of 2 speed. I use recordnow max 4.5, with athlon xp 1.5ghz 384ram 80gb 7200rpm hd. Drive faulty perhaps? or has anyone else had similar experience with these discs? Sorry to go on.. thx

oops didnt read above post with link, I'll try the hacked drivers and let you know how i get on. As Pioneer dont support all media with their firmware upgrades I'm hoping these programmers have my answer.. Although dont like the idea of flashing my drive with any old firmware as could knacker it.. Cheers
