Ok this messed me up i ripped and burned a movie useing shrink only and it on took a total of 12 min. could this be cause its an older movie from 1997 movies is "First time felon" has anyone else had this good luck i expected at least an hour like most movies i have done
Here's a list of some of the things that factor in when it comes to backup process time:
1)COMPRESSION:No compression, faster backup process time. The AEC quality enhancements of DVD Shrink will be grayed out. Main movie only will yield very fast times since most of the compression is limited,as well as you may be burning 2.0 to 3.5 gbs instead of the max of 4.38 gbs.
2)The Size of the dvd being ripped:You've got 2 sizes of dvds for original movies. Dvd-9's are the high budget flicks with alternate endings,2 main movies for either full frame or wide frame,an/or a ton of extra features, bloopers, alternate endings, etc.
The low budget flicks use a lot of dvd-5's. These are the ones that you rip, keep entire disc and still have no compression. A lot of older flicks will be dvd-5's.
3) Slight compression, unticking the AEC enhancements- time will slow down a little.
4)With more compression, the use of the AEC- Adaptive Error Compensation quality enhancements like Max smoothness, max sharpness, etc, the process time will drastically increase. If those enhancements are ticked, your process time can drastically slow down. You'll get a better quality playback.
5) Bitrate: I can't explain exact detail but here's simple laymans terms. Say you do a main movie only that's 90 mins long. You may have no compression so a very quick process time. You do a different 90 min main movie, and now you have 20% compression. All movies don't have the same bitrate.
6)Hardware: Faster processor, more ram = faster process time.Dvd shrink uses over 95% of your processor,so times will significantly increase with faster processors.I'm not sure how those times fair with the Dual core processors.
Some burners are faster rippers by bypassing some things. Most drives will only rip at a certain speed. Plextor PX-716A can be sped up while holding the eject button down for so long. Wears the drive out quicker. Some drives may have hacked firmware that can speed them up.
7) Ripping programs: DVD Decrypter is a faster ripper, and doesn't use as much of your resources like DVD Shrink. Using DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read, takes about 5 mins to rip in my 598 mhz P3 backup pc. Ripping with DVD Shrink on that pc,takes over an hour.
Dvd decrypter in file mode, you still have to go through DVD Shrink,so that'll add time.
8) Registry errors, malware, spyware: That'll really slow you down as well. A clean, well tuned pc helps out immensely.
9)Burnspeed:Everyone has their standard for burn speed. 4x=15 mins,8x=8 mins, and so forth. Some burn fast, some prefer slow-all depending on how the playback looks on their stand alone players.
10) Rip and burn on the fly: Why bother ripping to harddrive, when you can bypass the ripping to harddrive. You can rip and burn directly to the disc using dual drives. You can't get much quicker than that. Very risky!
When you rip with DVD Shrink, take notice of what the compression tab tells you, after you open disc. If it says 100,then no compression. If it says 70,then you got 30% compression. Start hitting around 55-60,then thats some major compression and the process time will increase.
Click re-author,drag main movie over and see what number is in that compression tab.The compression number will get higher.
