Dear Forum members,

I recently purchased a Sony 70" XBR2 rear projection TV. It's just been over a month now and I am loving every minute of it. The HD feed from Verizon FIOS looks as good as any. However the problem starts with 'normal' TV (analog signal). I am guessing that my eyes have become accustomed to the pixilated images, but in the back of my head I am always wondering if there is anything that I can do to improve (up scale) the signal.

In googling around I came across mention of Sony, Yamaha RX V2700 and Pioneer VSX 84TSI Home Theatre Receivers. Further research revealed that the Sony is the newest of the pack, and that it also is using Faroudja DCDi? Cinema scaling to 1080p. Even an analog system from can be upscaled to 1080p.

In principle this all sounds good. However common sense tells me that if an analog signal only had 480P resolution then it simply does not have the data to project a 1080p image. So obviously some algorithm must be filling in this information.

So here is my question. Has anyone tried this system and can they vouch for the results? the local Sound Advice store (Tweeter) is offering it for $1199, so it is not cheap. Is it worth getting it for the scaling capabilities?

Any insight/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Max
