Hi there guys, im a little confused on what would be a better way to go for my 360? A mod-c or a firmware hack. Here in aus the mod-c is pretty much done anywhere and everywhere, they all cost about the same $180 and that incs. instalation.
Now it seems alot of people offer firmware updates for only $45. I know they both have their ups and downs and the chip is perminate with the soldering. But ive been reading these forums for ages and im aware alot of people have heaps of expiernce with the firmwares. Just wondering if some people could shed some light on what they think would be the better way for the long term.
Also and sorry to drag this on. XBOX360 to pc backupkits go for about $190 in the paper, is it worth it? or just stick to 1 to 1 copys with clonde cd. Thanks heaps.
I personally don't know anything about Xbox 360 Modchips. They say that they are easy to install (but when I installed a PS2 chip that said it was easy to install, I broke the PS2). In my opinion, I would go with the Firmware, just because it sounds a lot easier, and cheaper. Just has a hassle to open the Xbox 360 every time a new Firmware comes out (there have been 30+ so far). Though, they are coming out with something called The Blaster 360, which allows you to update the Firmware on your system without opening it up every time. I also heard, that this is also used to Backup games (you have the disc in your 360, and can upload it to your PC). I'm right now in the process of Hacking the Firmware on my 360 (but I'm waiting for a SATA to USB converter). So ya, I would go with the Firmware, just because I don't have much money anymore. (it sucks when you are out of work)

Contrary to DavGerm4, I do not have any experience with firmware flash. I have installed a modchip in my 360 last weekend. I also installed a modchip in my PS2 a couple years ago. Once the chips are installed in your consoles you are home free. All you have to do is stick a backed up game in the console and play the game as it should be. No need to upgrade or flash again and again and again.... Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. I had a good experience with my PS2 mod and I am sticking to it.
Now, is it easy to install? Yes and no (sorry). I can take an engine out of a car, take it apart, put it back together and go for a spin. It is easy for me. Is it for you? In other words, it all depends on your skill with a soldering iron. It is not specially easy to solder points on a board the size of a floppy. Yes, those boards are not the size of your PC motherboard. They are lot smaller. The points are minuscules, the traces even smaller and to top it all, a slab of epoxy covers the whole freaking thing. I guess those doing this for a living might find it easy. Joes like me don't, but manage to do it anyway with time, patience and preparation.
It is feasible (even if you can't take a car apart), thousands did it. If I had to do it again, I would do it the modchip way again, but it is just me.
pierrrre, i myself have been trying to figure out which way to go on modding my 360, looking for the simplest most efficient method!
What kind of chip did you use and can you give me any insight as to where to get it/one?
I used the NME360 v 1.2. I don't know where you live and the best way to find the closest dealer for you would be to go on the team-underdog website and check it out. Here is a link to their site:
http://www.team-underdog.com/distributor.html (hope I can do that). This is where I found the nearest dealer to me(GoCybershop).
I'd go with the firmware mod if I was you. I mean, eventually M$ are going to release a ban that will counter both chips and firmware, but the firmware is easily reversible whereas a chip is not.
I'm in Australia, too, and found a good guy from Melbourne to do the firmware mod for me because I didn't want to risk stuffing it up myself. it only cost me $90 (although I know you can get em cheaper) and I haven't had a single backup I couldn't play; besides, I can't see what real advantage the chip has over the firmware mod.
Installing a modchip to XBOX 360 does not make any sense.
Go with firmware. It costs nothing, and you can always reverse it.
You are not changing your hardware; therefore, your warranty will not avoided. That is if you do it right. M$ just extended the warranty from three months to tweleven months.
