I've been backing up several movies for my next trip to Iraq and these are the only ones I'm having a problem with. Ive been using DVD Shrink for everything w/o any issues until now.
I tried downloading a trial version of DVD cloner 4 but it wouldnt get it done either. I cannot get the trial version of one click dvd copy 5 because I got a version of it some time back when I was tesing several programs.
First of all, you need to completely dump DVD43. Now you may want to get ImgBurn (one of the greatest FREE "ISO" or "VIDEO_TS" burning application by LUK (same author from DVD Decrypter).
All you need is either DVDFab Decrypter (FREE) or RipIt4Me (FREE) to rip and the rest is history with your favorite burning engine.
To make a long story short, here are 2 free and simple methods.
DVDFab Decrypter method
* DVDFab Decrypter - to rip
* Nero Recode or DVD Shrink (your choice) - to transcode/shrink
* Nero or ImgBurn (your choice) - to burn your final VIDEO_TS folder (BUP, IFO, VOB files)

What's the title of the movie? I've been ripping and backing up for ages and I've been using DVDFab Decrypter or RipIt4Me since they're both available to the public to current and so far I have never come across a movie/DVD that it can not be ripped or backed up.

CRC errors can pertain to encryption or it could be a disc problem like: Scratched, dirty,or even a bad press-also known as the dreaded Bum Disc. Lots of bad presses get out of the manufacturer. There's bad sector/s on the disc and your drive cannot get through it,therefore it keeps cycling over and over again, until erroring out.
Clean that disc up,look for any flaws on the bottom of the disc.A big fat fingerprint will definitely give you that crc error, LOL.
Dvd shrink hasn't been updated in a couple years or so and never will be again. It can't handle some of the newer releases like disney, columbia, and sony. When shrink runs into an encryption it can't rip, you'll see any of the following:
1)CRC error: Cyclitical Redundancy Check.
2)Invallid navigation error
3)Failed to Read File C:/- Copy protection error-the read failure because of encryption.
4) It can also freeze up DVD Shrink, giving a message to close all programs, then asks if you want to send it to microsoft.
I'm not sure of Ripit4me, but AnyDVD by slysoft will rip any movie out there. If it doesn't,you've got a bum disc and take it back for a replacement.
You can get a free 21 day trial by clicking on the blue AnyDVD link. It's a background ripper,no extra step is involved. Once you see that little red fox icon in your lower system tray, then she's a running. Procede to use your normal dvd backup process.
1 caution: You've got DVD43, if you go the AnyDVD route, you'll have to remove DVD43. Both are background rippers and clash with one another.
Dvd decrypter: If still unable to backup, try altering 2 settings:
Dvd decrypter/Tools/Settings:
CSS tab: Tick brute force
I/O tab: Tick the box on the lower center for Ignore Read errors.
OK and procede to rip away.
This works for me once in a while, not every time. You may get lucky?
I believe the problem you have is that after using DVDFabdecrypter you are still trying to use DVDShrink on the DVD (Open DVD button) and not on the files (Open Files button) created on your hard drive by DVDFabdecrypter.
In DVDShrink choose the Open Files option and go to the location where DVDFabdecrypter placed the files. Do not use the Open Disk option.
Hope this helps.
By the way, this is my first post, but I am a long time reader and veteran of backing up DVD's.
