A managed to get a few xvid movies. Some play fine, but others will just play the video (nicely), without any sound at all. Does that mean that it was encrypted without the sound or do i have to read it some special way. I use BSPlayer. Thanks!

Its not likely that someone would encode a movie without sound and make available for public download unless the encoder is really really absent-minded and forgot to mux the audio, or the encoder is a real piece of work and sent it off with no audio just to waste people's time and piss them off.

Anyways, your problem is most likely a missing audio codec. Download GSpot and load the problematic xvid files into the program and GSpot will tell you which codec you need to install. Note: if the codec you need is found in a codec pack such as the nimo codec pack, i suggest downloading only the needed codec(s) and leave out the rest, otherwise you might run the risk of getting codec conflicts.

Good Luck.

BTW, are you an anime fan? Im just asking because of the Lupin part of your name.

Like you said i downloaded GSpot, opened the 'corrupt' files, and it found the missing audio codecs, which I downloaded and it now works. But that brings 2 more questions!

First, it does play the sound, but so soft that you can bearly hear it. Both the BSPlayer volume and the windows audio are at 100%, so I should be playing these movies with LOUD sound, right?
Second, I tried to read these same files on my laptop, but they just won't open, when I play them an error message says something like "application error". From what you said before, I should guess that it's because I might have some codec conflicts, right? Then how do I know what to uninstall?
Thanks for the help!!

Oh and for the name, it was supposed to be Arsene Lupin but it's too long to fit in. And as I suppose you know, Arsene Lupin is a famous French thief who has a streak of morality and honor. And actually the anime character Lupin III is supposed to be his grandson. So I do like anime but in this case the nick refers to the original character. There, that should explain everything!

Yeah you explained everything.

Did you install any codecs in your laptop other than the xvid codec and the audio codecs you need?

If the audio file is an mp3, you can increase the volume by running the file through Mp3Gain.
Here's the link:
http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/

To separate the audio file from the movie, download virtualdubmod and load the movie in it. Go into the streams menu and click on stream list. The audio file should be there. Click on Demux. Youll now have a copy of the audio file. After youve run the file through mp3gain, open vdubmod again and load the video and get back into stream list. The original audio file is still there so highlight it and click disable. Click add and select the new file. Right click the file you added and make sure its set at direct stream copy. Go into the video menu and make sure its set at direct stream copy as well. Save the file.

Good Luck.

Life is but a dream...so wake me up already!!!
