I normally get my games from other backups, or downloaded as ISOs.

But at Christmas I borrowed an original from my Newphew (Who Wants To Be a Millionaire: Party Edition)

I ran off 2 copies using Nero and gave one away.

When I came to play mine, I was suprising to niced a small unburned ring (about 1/2mm wide) just inside the end of the burned area (About 2mm from the end).. I have never seen anything like this before, infact I would go as far to say that its impossible.

When I try and play the game, it locked up periodically, so its safe to say that its a coaster. I contacted my friend and asked them to look at their copy, and it doesn't have the same 'ring'.. But when they try and copy it, it gets a read error near the end.

Is there some kind of protection built into PS2 originals? If so, is there any way around it? I will borrow the disk again, but just wondered whether there is anything better than Nero for doing this?

Any info on this would be appreciated

Jon

no games i know have protection on them, especially something as
old as a PS1 game. It was most likely just a bad burn or a bad disc.

Sorry. This isn't an old game.. This is VERY new.. Its called "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Party Edition" and its written to use the 'Buzz' controllers.. However, it may only be out in the UK!

I didn't think that there was protection, but I find it strange that both the disks have different problems. When you consider how many disks I have copied with my current setup (With ZERO coasters) its got to be more than a co-incidence??
