today i was just sitting around playin my ps2 the it just shut off so i went over and looked at it and the power light wasnt even on anymore.
so i unplugged it and plugged it back in and still the light wouldnt turn on so i tried turning it on and it wouldnt work.

Is that a usb hard drive on ur ps2?? if so, then ur ps2 could have gotten to hot (cuz of the usb drive) and burned out.

I know this problem. The buttons and lights are not functioning because the ribbon cable that connects it to the motherboard has melted or got out of the connector. The only way to fix this is to open up your PS2(<- Will void warranty) and reconnect your ribbon cable. If it is melted, then you should look for a new one.
