I have still the old version of WinDVR, came bundled years ago. Recently tried to use it and no picture, but sound OK> Also it changes TV channel as it should (sound only). when Exiting, the sound still is on while I am looking at the desktop.
Error message: "Overlay not available, close app, lower resolution, color depth and/or refresh rate".
Before I go on a wild goose chase (by the way I tried those recommendations with no success) what is happening? Tried to contact Intervideo Tech Serv. their reply was that they do not support bundled software. Nice... I don't even know with which software WindDVR came with.

Any suggestions? Will be appreciated. Thanks

Probably I should give some more info about the system: Dell Dimension 8200, 1.7 Ghz 512 mem, display card ATI All in Wonder 9600; Driver 614.10.6652, Res 1024x768x60 Hz (Reducing the resolution did not take care of the problem.) Recently I updated the ATI card by downloading the most recent drivers required by the installation of the Samsung Syncmaster 204b LCD screen. Just a thought...

Your problem is more than likely going to be the new ATI drivers. ATI recently released a new unified capturing driver that has been causing all sorts of issues. If you go into device manager and under sound, video and game controllers do you have ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver? If you do this is the newly released capture drivers from ATI. Have you tried using the very good ATI TV (part of ATI MMC) capture software from ATI? You could try rolling back your drivers but this may cause even more problems. ATI is known for their bad drivers and it's something I have to deal with too unfortunately.

The problem is that I had to upgrade from the ATI MMC to the T200 Unified AVStream Driver as needed for the Syncmaster 204b. Is there a fix for this driver's bugs?
