DVD Shrink: DL DVD Compression Rate Under 55% ???

Hi All,

I am trying to back up a Dual Layer DVD using DVD Shrink, and I've unchecked everything except for the AC3 5.1 English and can't manage to get over 55% compression rate. Is there anything else i can do to bring this up to say around 80%? Thanks much in advance.

Welcome to the forum. I take it you went into "Re-Author" and removed the lang. there?? What movie are you doing. The last one similar to this was LOTR

i am trying to back up LOTR (all three of them).

I didn't use Re-Author, looks a bit too complicated for me. These are the apps i've used for ripping. If you can do this using Re-Author, how?

Reauthor is not difficult at all...simply click the Reauthor radio button and browse to title 1 under main movie and double click or drag it to the left side. Open your compression tab and remove all audio except AC3 5.1 and any subtitles you don't need. Then proceed as usual.

In Shrink after you have ripped the files to the HD and you have pointed Shrink to where the files are located at: you will see Re-Author at the top. Now click on that and you will see on the right hand side about 1/2 way "Main Movie". In Main Movie you will see Title 1, Now click on Title 1 and slide it to the left hand side. At the top you will see Compression Settings. In Compression settings you can remove(uncheck ) and of the languages or audio you do not want. I usually keep 5.1 and uncheck everything else. Now click backup and follow the directions and you should be good to go.

thanks all. following your instructions. i was able to increase the compression rate to around 78%. still not great, but much better than before. thanks again!
