PS2 + USB Harddrive as mp3 audio system?

Hey,
I've just bought a Seagate 160Gb USB Harddrive with the intention of storing all my mp3's on it.
I had the idea that I could plug the HD into one of my PS2's USB ports, split the scart lead so audio goes to cdplayer and video to tv, then use the playstation to open the mp3 files on the harddrive and play them.
However, the HD does not appear on the browser and iI was curious as to whether there is any modifications to allow me to do this, would one of the HDloader programs allowing games to be booted from a harddrive maybe work? Does the PS2 even support mp3 audio files?

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
