Hi, I have a problem with the playback of some movies. Some of them are avi files and others are svcd bin files. I used to play the avi files after I installed the xvid codec and they worked fine. I formatted my computer and didnt install the xvid codec yet. I got the svcd movies on disc and they worked just fine. Then I tried to play an avi movie and it didnt work. I then realized that I didnt have the xvid codec installed. I then installed the xvid and divx codecs. The avi worked just fine. Now I have a problem playing the svcd files in media player that worked before I installed xvid and divx. Does anyone know if there is some type of interference between these?

I then got windvd trial version and the svcd discs play in that. Windvd is going to run out of trial period and I dont want to buy it. I think I should beable to play them in media player like they did before. Will the movies play with better quality in Windvd? Thankyou for any help._

Game on!

That is pretty strange seems like the mpeg-2 codec has been corrupted or something!! This is the first I have ever heard of this problem anyways!

I have pretty much the same problem. No SVCD's will play in any player (And I've tried them *all*, trust me.), unless I install the Elecard mpeg2 decoder. (25$). I tried deleteing all my codecs and installing exactly like the pinned topic at the top of the playback problems forum. Still no luck.

AVIcodec just freezes and says "Error opening class factory, cannot supply requested class for: I:\MPEG2\AVSQ01.MPG" when I try to open a SVCD file. :/

Any of you guys have any ideas?

Are you sure its the divx/xvid codecs that are messing up your SVCD playback?

Uninstall both those codecs and see if you can watch the SVCD if you can't then something else might be going on. If you can, then try installing only the codec that the movie requires. So if the AVI needs an xvid codec only install that. Does your SVCD still play? If not then it is the xvid codec that is causing the problem. From here you can either download a newer possibly stable version of the codec or download FFDShow.

I've just had the same problem with MPEG files. I opened it up in Windows Media Player and it came up with an error message about Class. I think I know what caused my error though and I'm wondering if yours is the same reason. I had Lord of the Rings 1 and 2 in 4 seperate movues and I tried to use MPEG joiner to join all 4 parts. MPEG Joiner said it had done this but the joined movie comes up with the error message. I wonder if the movies were joined incorrectly and WinDVD is probably ignoring this problem whereas Windows Media Player might use the corrupt data for some reason and that's where the problem is.
