Hi Oriphus,
I'm wondering if you have completed the tests on the various DVD-r/+r media that I found mentioned in a post, at least I think it was you and not Diskmania with her speed tests, I found at some stage this-morning, which I found fairly unimpressive.
I have spent the morning (4hrs+) searching the posts looking for info on places to buy DVD's cheaply and have settled on
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/
or
http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/
(Thanks to your and other peoples posts.)

Now I'm wondering if the DVD's are worth getting, quality/ price wise?
I though I'd try DVD-r this time, have only used DVD+r in the past, ,usually stay at low write speed to to the media quality being all over the place.

Have Sony DRU-500AX (internal), @ latest firmware etc...

Anyway if you can shed some light
Thanks...

My appologies Mr. Discmania,
1st for the spelling
2nd for the mistaken identity, wasn't apparent in the posts I checked.

Hi Oriphus,
I had seen these tests before, I had thought you were doing other testing on the DVD's.

I would disagree with the validity of the tests to show which DVD is better.
They, in my opinion, are not representative of the DVD's due to limited sample populations, which do not allow for statistical analysis, (ie, results only shown for 1 DVD at a time, my thinking is, if the tests were completed for 10 (lets say 10, 30 would be a bit more realistic) of the same DVD's and then 10 of each other type of DVD, it may turn out that the better more reliable DVD is other than your tests show)
Have you run these tests on several of the sample DVD's and analysed/ compared the results and then compared these results to similar analysis of different DVD's?
The tests would need to be run on different burners too, to eliminate the effect they would have on burning the DVD?s.
It?d be interesting to compare against DVD+r

Would you have any further Data, I might be able to have a look over it in the next week or so?

NOTE: It's only my opinion, don't get in a knot over it

I have no intention of getting in a knot :-)

Actually 4 of each of the DVD's were tested by me. The results are virtually exactly the same with each brand of DVD because the environment i record them in is exactly the same. I am only testing these with a Pioneer DVR105 and have no intentions of trying them with different drives.

You have to remember, no test will be valid unless it is done on a very large scale with DVD's from many different batches and factories. However, i have to rely on the companies that send these discs to constantly supply media of the same quality. The tests are there to show people the differences between the media on the palyers i have outlined. I dont think there is a testing facility on afterdawn which does a mroe thorough test than what i do. I am constantly testing media for companies and have a new set of tests that i will be doing, though i am quite busy with a project at the minute.
