Hello,

I have been running windows Vista Beta with Media Center for the past couple of months.RC1 Build 5600. I have been using the Xbox 360 as an extender. I got around the problem of playing DivX and XviD files by using VIDEORA to convert to MPEG-2 which media center supports and could play on the extender. About 3 days ago the extender stopped connecting to my pc. I rang microsoft support for the 360 and he got me to setup Windows media player 11 with 360. I asked him does it support all the video files on the extender that media center does nd he replies "yes". I was fine with this if it were true which it is not. Only WMV files work through Media Player which was always the case but I thought they may have updated it.

So now im still looking to fix Media Center. The last support guy gave me the run around when asking if I had any more questions after setting up media player. I asked yea why isn't Media Center working thats when he ended the converstaion :) and hung up.

Ok now the error occurs after I enter the pin code. On my pc it says after you enter the pin number it goes through the four steps. On the last step it get stuck "Connecting To Extender". The error message is as follows on the PC

The Extender was set up succesfully, but has failed to connect to this computer. Try the following actions
* Verify extender is pysically connected to your network
* Turn extender on/off
* Restart Media Center

So I am atm lost to whats causing the problem. If the extender can be setup from the pc obviously there is some sort of connection between the two. Also both the PC and Xbox are both working fine with the internet through the same router. D-link. And to top it off the media player connection works fine and plays wmv, music files and views photos.

So any help would be appreciated or information on fixing this problem. Is it possible the microsoft has stopped supporting media center with xbox 360 ??

and way hoping for a solution soon :)

it's because the extender no longer is in use

microsoft has gone to streaming with the zune music player software to send video and everthing to the 360 the media center extender doesn't work unless you have the full version of vista not the beta the only full version of vista right now vista enterprise edition is the only version of vista out right now so you have to wait untill june sorry
