I originally bought the SONY DRU-500ax, because it was compatible with both + and - media and +/- RW media DVD's and CD's.
Since I got the Drive I have gone from theory to practice with a reasonably high and fast learning curve.
The only Media I have used so Far is DVD+R.
I started with NO-Defex DVD's and then got some ARITA and some different no-Defex DVD's.
When I got the new DVD+r's I had several fails or coasters as the DVD's were rated 2.4 or 4X and trial and error confirmed a suspision that they would only work at low burn speeds, since this was confirmed I have burned 100+ with only one reject, which I didn't even try in the drive as it had a huge scratch.
I'm considering getting some DVD-r, but the impression I get is that thay are more un-reliable.
I used to work in CDr replication and know a few things about DVD's and would be interested if some definitive answers are available either on this forum or elsewhere on the web with regard to the best media available, the best supplier/manufacturer, and which format +/- is the best for compatability across the board.

I have a sony dru 500ax and I have been using the 1x ritek g03 (they burn at 2x)

g04s do not burn at 4x so just stick with the ritek g03s for compatibility (providin' yer standalone is somewhat new), cost and quality.

If you can get it use Record Now Max/DX to burn. I will assume you got the freebie burning softs with your 500ax so use the veritas record now dx to burn.

I use different software depending on what I need done, Instant copy used mostly.
ANy chance you could enclose a link to the source of your DVd's?
are they +/-?
