Hello. I have about 300 VHS tapes I want to burn to DVDs. I have decided to go the route of a DVD/VHS combo box instead of burning the shows from my computer. (I will buy a Panasonic DMR-ES45VS machine.)

Now I need to figure out a way to label the disks. I have been warned by many people to avoid putting paper labels on the disks like the plague! What should I do? Should I buy a printer? (I don't want to spend too much money on this.) The Epson R260 is an option, but I read several reviews saying that the ink is expensive and the cartriges don't last long. I read something about LightScribe technology. I could buy a DVD burner with this technology. I would put the disk in my computer and label it and THEN move it to the DVD/VHS combo to do the copying. However, I read that LightScribe requires special disks. Is this true? Can I use the Taiyo Yuden disks with this? (See link at bottom of this post to see what I'm talking about.)

Thanks in advance for the help.

Justin

I use an Epson R320 printer...buy printable blanks, they load into a tray and run through the printer, printing directly to the disc. Professional looking results.

You can get the ink for the Epson online for around $20 for the set, so price isn't that big of a factor considering it is $60 for a certified set of carts.

I have a lightscribe drive that I've used about 5 times and the output just can't beat the print on discs. While a neat concept, the technology won't be worth it until it can produce color copies. And as you mentioned, there is a special disc you have to buy to be able to burn the label onto the disc.

I have some discs with paper labels...if they are handled frequently they can become ratty looking. I much prefer the print to disc DVD's, they have my vote.
