I have been having trouble with my ps2 as of late. more specifically the lens. it has been having trouble recognizing black label(PSone) games and the newest DVD movies(Cars, Ice Age 2 for example). i read up on adjusting my lens including cleaning it and now its works as if brand new.

BUT...

Its still won't read the newest movies. what gives? i checked the drivers for my dvd and i have version 2.12U. I was considering buying the DVD remote to see if the drivers are upgradeable further. before i decide to go and buy the remote; i opened up my ps2 one more time to see if even the DVD discs spin but no. they barely spin only as soon as the tray is closed and then just stop.

The DVD movie problem seems to be only doing this for the most recent retail dvds and from when i can remember has been happening to me for the past 6 months as i havent watched much dvd movies on my ps2 since then. every dvd i have in my house plays in the ps2 except the newest ones like Cars, Invincible, and the like.

So what should i do?

A)Buy DVD remote and see if drivers are the problem?
B)Re-adjust lens further?
C)Re-adjust laser by adjusting the voltage/output?
D)Purchase New laser?

BTW i have a model 39001. version 7 i think right?

I say buy a cheap dvd player from walmart. Why wear out your ps2 playing dvd movies?

agree with the above. That is exactly what i did.
The PS2 can play DVD's but is not known for having the
best playback. Mine use to give me problems on some discs and
i would lend them to my friend who would play them in his DVD player and say that they worked without and audio/video problems.

you'll be much happier playing through a system like that then
with a PS2 through an outdated stereo, that is for sure.

After getting into the surround sound thing when they first started out, and watching TV and playing my game systems through it. I could
never understand how people watched movies or played games without
it. It is like a whole different world.
