The best burner software without a doubt is the Record Now Deluxe software from Veritas. You can get it and a user guide for burning movies here:

Blank Media is Ritek G04's. Ad softwre is DVD Shrink:

A lot of people say Ritek G04 discs, which are the best "generic" discs, for branded I also suggest these for important burns:
-R Pioneer discs
+R Ricoh (also OEMd by TDK, Fuji and Others, they will say made in Japan on the box)
In objective tests such as PI / PO measurement and CD Speed, the above two do the best out of the 20-30 media types Ive tried, better than Riteks, BUT they are more expensive unless you find them on sale. For everyday use, the Riteks are a good deal.

Don't get Ritek g04s for a sony burner as they only burn 2x. Get the 1x g03 and they'll burn at 2x.

Burning a G03 at 2x and a G04 at 2x doesn't yeild the same results.
The G03 discs tend to have more raw errors, especially towards the end when burnt at 2x compared to a G04. If you don't care about such things by all means buy G03, they should work many times and turn out cheaper. The person who started this thread listed reliability and compatiblity as his top 2 priorities.

I have 50 Fuji DVD+Rs that I cannot get Best Buy to take back and Fuji said they would send a postpaid label for me to return so they could look at them but NOTHING. Ouch. 50 cost money!

The Fuji DVD-Rs seem to work fine. Have had no problems with anyother brand. Just the Fuji +Rs

Generation 2 G03's and G04's are virtually the same in make up - i havent heard of any problems with either!

The Fuji +R would copy a video in my Philips Recorder and at the end "Disk Error" or something lke that. Or when I would try to finalize it would give "disk error" in red on the screen.

Also, with 321 I think at the first or last I would get "disk error".

You have to buy DVD media specially marked "for dvd recorders" for your Philips recorder whereas a PC DVD burner will burn on any DVD media. Dang, didn't you read the manual?

Well, all the other DVD+/- media records beautifully on my Philips. Nothing in the instructions said "special recorder media". It was only with the Fuji that problems came so I really question your comment.

I'm no maven on recording DVDs but I have also not seen any media marked "for recorders".

Elaborate, please. I would like to learn.
