Use a multi-meter to check all fuses on the motherboard, one could be blown. What version slimline is it? Fuses will be labelled from PS1 to PS12 or something on the motherboard.

It's cheaper to get a new ps2 or get a xbox. ps2 is like $65 on ebay. and xbox is the same. I think xbox is more powerful and can do some many things when it's modded but do what you want. cause sony is not going to fix that for free and it's cheaper to get a new one than fixing all the parts. Get a networkthing with ps2

1. if you can fix it yourself then i would do that
2. if it had to be replaced i would agree with the above. a modded PS2 is great and may be needed for you as i am sure all your games are PS2. But a modded Xbox just blows a modded PS2 out of the water.
My Xbox and PS2 are modded and the PS2 has not been used much at all since i bought he Xbox.

yeah, IF you need to buy some parts, Don't waste money on it. get the xbox. It's so sweet and not just for games either.

@albee76

Maybe I can actually "help" you.

What version is your slim PSTwo? If its a v12 its very likely that its got a laser fix and if so you might have a bad laser which the fix may be detecting and thus shutting off your console to avoid and further damage. Do you know what chip you have? Do you know what laser fix might have been installed?

If it was the laser the ps2 will at least power up. He or she clearly said the ps2 doesn't power up at ALL.

Well I hate to make you eat your words .... but I guess you dont know what your talking about or misunderstood what I posted.

If he has a V12 with a pic fix then this can happen. This is why I asked the questions I did of him and waited for his reply inorder to rule this out. I'm sure he would rather get this console working rather then jumping into an Xbox if he can.

ps2modgod had made a good point, it could be the cause of the problem, if its a laser fix with an IC on it, that controls system activity, then it could be turning the system off due to excessive voltage, or a faulty laser. If that isn't the case, the system can still be repaired, normal diagnosis for this sort of problem, is a blown fuse on the motherboard, so once the laser fix is ruled out, then the fuses on the board should be checked.

@lilg_06

Thank you, that is my point exactly. Beyond that there are other issues that might attribute to this type of issue but you need to get these main ones out of the way first.

Have fun!

point or not, sheer arrogance like this is totally unnecessary
"Maybe I can actually "help" you"

If you want to help people, well that i have no problems with. But coming around posting crap like that is counter productive to say the least. What you did was make a guess, like everyone else.
He did not mention a chip at all. So there may not be one, or a laser fix.
You can only give information with what little you are given.

Your only annoyed by this because I am actually "trying to help"... which is why he came here ... when you and the other wright it off as "oh well screw it get an Xbox"

Also don't try to discipline me as if you are some addict indentured moderator. If you have a problem with me assisting others then summon a real mod or stay over at teammodders and work there.

EDIToh and another thing

well duhhhh this is why I "asked" if he had those things. Once we know that or not we can then make other conclusions but at least I didnt just try to sell him on the idea that its not worth fixing and just to get an Xbox .... geeezzz I dont know why your getting butt hurt here.

I have no need to lecture you. All people will have to do is read your posts to see how condescending most of them are.
Your very first line says:
"If its a v12 its very likely that its got a laser fix"
which, unless he actually does have a mod chip is 100% false.
and at the end you did not ask if he had a modchip or laser fix, you asked if he knew which chip he had and what modchip he may have had installed:
"Do you know what chip you have? Do you know what laser fix might have been installed?"

So once again, never was there any mention in his post about a modded system.

I on the other hand was only commenting on the post above my own. Which stated that if the repairs were going to cost more than $65 that he may just want to look into getting another system.

I have no problems with you helping people. That is great, and expertise is great to pass along. But you could do it without being an a$$ to everyone else. I have no reason to run around telling the mods about people. I am not some 5 year old who runs to mommy every time he skins his knee.
and obviously if you know other sites that i have helped at, then you were most likely booted from them and have some chip on your shoulder about it or you never would have mentioned it.
But since your the expert i will see how well you answer all the posts here every day. I can sit back and watch the same thing happen in the forums as the previous time i left. unanswered or misinformed posts in every section.

You shouldn't have any issue here at all, whether I help others here or not it also not for you to comment on. Maybe you feel threatened because I have already corrected some of your replys to others and this is yet another that I have a disagreement with you on. This is if you haven't noticed a "discussion" board where peoples opinions are welcome. You are somewhat of a hypocrite with your arrogant comment of

"I can sit back and watch the same thing happen in the forums as the previous time i left. unanswered or misinformed posts in every section."

making is seem as if your some kind of savior here. I know of you an teamodders because of all the spam you sling here about them, and browsing over there after you have done so I happened to stumble across you there, wow can you believe that it didn't have anything to do with your 5 year old chip scenario.

Anyway, lets get on with our lifes .... you can sit back and watch if you like.

Have fun!
