I see its possilbe to launch an external hardrive from the USB on the PS2? I recently installed a DMS4 S.E. Lite on my console and was wondering how one goes about doing this.

I have an Iriver 20gig mp3 player and I was wondering if this would suffice.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

No way of doing it without purchasing something else?

If you don't have a model of PS2 that supports an internal hard drive, then you're stuck with USB Xtreme (or whatever it's called). If you can use an internal hard drive, then you can run HD loader from the memory card.

Sorry for all the questions but....

I have a version 4 ps2...it does have an expansion bay if thats what you mean. How does one go about putting hd loader on a memory card?

Also well I`m on the subject...is there anyway to burn a CNF file with Alcohol 120%? Or do I need Nero.

I really want to put my modchip to use, but even then my ps2 has a serious problem reading burned dvds....which is why I was hoping I could use my Mp3 player. And because I dont know how to burn cnf images to discs, the 5 hours of sweating over the soldering iron is almost useless.

I really would appreciate any help in these matters.....thanks guys.

You'll just need a network adapter to install an IDE hard drive. For the most part, any hard drive besides Western Digital will fit right in the slot. Western Digital drives needs to have the adapter modified first.

I'm not sure what a CNF file is... are you sure you have the right file?

For installing HD Loader to your memory card, the easiest way is to use the network adapter and FTP the file from your computer to the memory card. I've seen tutorials on this, but can't find any at the moment.

Ok thanks for the info...

Every homebrew file I`ve downloaded for ps2 is either a .CNF or an elf with the exception of the toxic BIOS. For example.....SNES Station. Check out the guide for creating a disc...http://snes-station.gamebase.ca/index.htm

Alcohol120% will only let make images with certain extensions and .cnf certainly isnt one.

Ah, that's part of the problem. CNF files aren't executable files, those are ELF's. The CNF file is similiar to a *.ini file you'd see on a PC.

Oh....Dont I feel stupid...

Still then...alcohol 120% certainly doesnt recognize elfs as an image file....how do I burn it?

Using the SNES-Station as an example, you'd just burn all three files to a disc as regular files, probably adding in some ROM's while you're at it.

Now, loading the ELF file depends on your mod chip. You'd have to read some documentation for that.

The DMS4 chip I have gives you a menu where you just select the ELF file.

Yup! The instructions on that website should be enough to get you going.
