DVD backup is blurry at full screen - Please help

I just went the full process of backing up a copy of my DVD using Afterdawn's guideline article entitled "DVD to VCD with SmartRipper, DVD2AVI and TMPGenc". After using Nero to burn one-half of my final backup, I played the backup and noticed that the video much more grainy and blurry than the original DVD. Does anyone one have any suggestions to correct this for me??

Next time I think I am going to just backup one .vob file to check for clarity before I go through the entire 15 hr ordeal again. THANKS SO MUCH....

try using it in a stand alone dvd player and see if the picture quality is acceptable.

The only way so far I have been able to get a good DVD rip is to use this method.
Use smartripper to rip the movie from the DVD saving the ifo file.
Load up DVDx1.8 in the output settings set to svcd and the bitrate to 4500 that should give you a 4gb file remember to use the volume exceed set this to 5gb or you will not get one big file.
This will give you a good quality svcd file.
