Can I put it in without having to reflash the drive?? or is that not possible?? Do I have to match the drive up with the motherboard??

I'm not sure if it is possible, but if it is, you would need it to match the motherboard of your old Xbox 360. It wouldn't be possible on switching a Hitachi drive with a Samsung. But ya, it could be possible.

You will have to reflash the drive. The key needs to to match the motherboard.

And, alot of people don't know this, but you can swap drive brands.

all you have to do is extract the key from your original dvd rom drive.

when you first flashed your now broken dvd drive, you did a read of your original key didn't you? did you do a mktflash r orig.bin?

then all you have to do is get an identical drive, flash it using the orig.bin along with xtreme 5.2

then just connect it and a way you go.

cheers

I don't know where you are based but i bought a relacement drive on ebay from techno-devices (u.k).
If you have a back up of your original firmware you can extract the key and mail it to these guys, they then flash the drive so that it matches your motherborad.
Worked a treat for me, but I did order the same model and version of the drive that I had bricked.
you can buy a much cheaper replacement from ebay, delivered from japan but they don't install the firmware for you so you risk bricking the drive all over again.

jsut as long as you got the orig key you should be ok. technically you should be able to do it yourself. it's easy and if you learn how to do it then you will not have to rely on anyone.

cheers
