Hi,
I got some virus on my laptop. I did run a Norton scan and Spybot search & destroy. Can someone please check this hijack to see if I still have any problem? Thank you very much!

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply, along with the HijackThis log.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
* Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Hi,
Thanks Maca1 very much, I'm appreciated that you take your time and brain to help with my problem here.
I followed and finished all of your instructions, except for one thing: the "wininet.dll" check did not appear. I tried to run SmitfraudFix for 2nd time but still did not see it. It once said : "File not found: C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\*.* "

You don't have to worry about that, it only alerts you if the file is infected.


Run HijackThis and click Do a system scan only. Place a check beside these two and then click Fix Checked.

run Notepad and copy and Paste this following bold text into the editor :

Go to File > Save As
Save File name as Fix.reg
Change Save as Type to All Files and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the fix.reg file and click yes to allow it merge with the registry.

2. Copy the following 3 lines in bold to your Clipboard by highlighting and pressing (Ctrl+C):

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
Click Done
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger?s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply with a new HijackThis log.

Everything looks good, just clean out your cookies in Firefox.

Now you should flush out your system restore, and create a new restore point:

Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
On the System Restore tab, check Turn off System Restore
Click Apply and Ok

Turn back on System Restore:
click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
On the System Restore tab, uncheck Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply and Ok
This will create a clean restore point.

Your version of Java is slightly outdated.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6
can be downloaded here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp When you install it, you can remove the previous version/s of the Java runtime environment through add/remove programs.

Let me know if you've any particular problems.

Hi Maca1,

I'm very appreciated all your help. You are so nice! Everything is good, I followed all your advices. But I have a question. I've been run Spybot-S&D scan everyday and it keeps showing this problem:
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled: Settings (Registry change, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc\Start!=W=2


I also see DoubleClick, Avenue A Inc., Statcounter and others... Sometimes they're gone and then get back. Can I do anything to get rid of them permanently besdides cleaning out cookies and registry?

Go to start -> run. Type regedit in the open box.

Expand the following but make sure you don't do anything else or delete anything.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc


After you've found wscsvc, right click the Start value in the right pane and select modify. Set the data value to 2.

Reboot and run the scans again and see if it's still being detected.

You can't do a whole lot about the cookies, everyone gets them.
