My PSTwo came with pretty strongly worded warnings about the laser. The way they are written it sounds like my PSTwo laser could die RIGHT NOW.

its a Brand new PSTwo modded with a ChipMod Pro+ (which is a *misc chip* I know.) with SCH-77001 model No. (I guess its a v15.)

I have only used it for about 2 hours and everything was fine (there was some clicking on a Sony DVD-R but I took it out and put it back in and it the sound was gone and it played fine.)

Are Sony DVD-R Ver 2.1 Good? I know they are branded, but do they work well with Ps2s? My neighbour has some Riteks I could trade with but they are blank. The Ritek Label is barelly visible.

Best DVD's are:(all 8X DVD-R)
1. Taiyo Yuden
2. Verbatim
3. Philips

i am not sure why they gave you a laser warning, i would not trust any site like that. I have a V12, known for having the worst of the slimline lasers. It has a DMS4 Pro modchip and a laser fix.
It has not had any problems in over a year now.

1. if you are worried about your laser then you should have had a lsaer fix installed with the modchip. Although since the V13 they have not been needed.
2. you should buy a top quality chip and you would not have to worry.

This is a common misconception of many misinformed people. The PVR-802 lasers in the V12 are the same PVR-802 lasers in the V13,14 and 15 slim units. The error is not with the laser but with the console, which you are partly right in that since the V13 this has been corrected. The only slim that needs a fix is the V12.

Stating that "i would not trust any site like that" is a bold one when I look at the warning given to him from his installed as a recommendation to use good quality media or his laser will get toasted very quickly, which was the one good recommendation you did make.

Yes, yes, I know. I should Have been more patient and I should have gone with a more reputable mod group who offered a more reputable chip. But I was stupid and went for speed.

The good news is it didn't die in minutes or a few days for that matter. I'll post back in a week then a month then next year to see if its still works.

NOW concerning the media I use, I am going to pick up some others, but the Sony's I use right now work, but they can't be burnt below 4x. I am guessing this is an issue with the burner and not the DVDs. But won't that were the laser faster?

And DVD+ are deadly. I know. But DVD-R DLs are impossible to find. Here anyway. I could by a 25 pack for CAN $45, but as you can tell, its expensive. And I don't think there are 25 DVD 9 games I want to play. That said, I can justify it if I must.
