Hey im in Perth, Western australia

I have a SCPH-50002 PAL

Theres this place Modsplus that sells 2 different mod chips this is what they said

"The first is the Messiah A750.
It is a ok modchip. It WON'T play all PS2 games but will play most. It has to be put in correct mode before playing games (Pressing and holding buttons when powering up)

The second is the Modbo4. It plays EVERYTHING DIRECT BOOT.

Cost on the Messiah is $90 and Modbo4 $130.
Installation takes about 45 minutes"

For the Modbo4 is that a good price? i think its with installation.

Theres also another shop (TheModShop)there price is for installation is $45 or $50 i think and they said the cheapest mod chip was $50. so thats $100 for the cheapest. I've heard abit of bad news about themodshop im not sure if its bad at all

also i heard of Modtech wheres that ?? i havent found a site or anything

and what is the best mod chip thats not to expensive and that plays all?, i dont really care about dvd region, i just want to be able to play all ps2 games originals, backups, and overseas games and also with ps1 games

and does anybody know about any other places that sell ps2 mod chips
in perth?

Yes and not to mention the modbo is a clone of the Matrix Infinity and the messiah is a very old unsupported chip. look into a Crystal Chip 2.0.

Have fun!

I forgot to mention that it includes that they pick it up go back to mod
it then test it for about an hour (do you really need to test it that long?) with a backup ps2 game then come back to my house then test it with some of my games. and it has a lifetime warranty

Im not sure but i called them and they said $130 for the modbo4 (they said there premium edition) i think that ment also if you go to the shop its still $130 and the do it while you wait 45 mins

and does the ps3 affect it at all is it because the ps3 isnt here yet?
will ps2 modchips and the installation prices go down when the ps3 is here?

The PS3 is already here, it just seems the guy you inquired with is over priced. I would shop around if I was you. There is more then one modchip installer in AU.

Well both the Modbo and Messiah are cheap chips.
The top three chips out right now are:
DMS4 Pro SE, Crystal Chip V2.0 and Matrix Infinity
and which chip you should get depends on what you want to do. so some research on your part will be needed.
Like the Crystal chip has auto patching so you can play back up games online, oter chips you have to manually patch the DNAS of your back up
The DMS4 Pro has a built in cheat device and a built in program for using a hard drive with your PS2.

So figure out EXACTLY what you want then choose a chip.

Hmm... interesting.
I have a Mars Pro GM805 modchip. I've read it's somewhat mediocre. I saw a good offer for a Matrix Infinity. Should I make the switch?
What's the difference between Matrix Infinity and Matrix Universal?

@Meneldur

If you current chip is working I wouldn't be to concerned with swapping it out unless you are unhappy with it.

The Crystal Chip 2.0 and Matrix Infinity are the top chips right now IMO.

Matrix Universal? That sure sounds like a clone.

If all your wanting to do is play games, i'd get hd advance instead

ps3 with 20gb hard drive

xbox 360 premium edtion with vga/hd hook up to my dell 20.1 inch widescreen lcd.

White and black 1.5 psp's

I'll take this down WHEN micro$oft decides to stop being lazy and make the capcom fighting games backwards compatible with the 360 dammit!!!

Nah, why waist your money an a disc that cant be upgraded. HDAdvance is nothing more then the patched HDL pressed to a disc. If new patches for HDL become available you are stuck with your HDAdvance disc. Also with HDA on a disc you are always using your laser to boot up the HDD games. This is a concern for many as your PS2 laser will not last forever and the more its used the sooner it will wear out. With a modchip like the CC2.0 or MI you can boot HDL from your PS2's MC, HDD, or USB stick with no disc in your PS2 at all. The combination of a modchip and the patched HDL (which by the way is free) is a much more powerful combination then HDA alone and not to far from the same price when its all said and done.

i agree, if your chip is working fine and does what you need it to do then leave it alone. Clone chips will load back up games if that is all your doing. they just lack some of the extra features that a top of the line chip like the 3 i mentioned will have.

and just for the record, Even though i agree with the above that HD loader is a waste of money and modchips are a better way to go. There is really no comparing the prices of the two.
any way you stack it up the HD loader will be way cheaper than buying a mod chip and getting it installed.

You also have to remember that since the next gen systems have hit, it doesn't matter which modchip you have, there are not going to be many more updates to be released. so the current flashes are pretty much all the features you can expect to have.

PS, i forgot to link this before. Here is a mod site in Austrailia

True but I'm not talking about a few dollars in difference. Spending $20 to $30 for a better option above an HDA disc in my eyes is not reaching deep.

I have to disagree with you and also state that you are incorrect. The Crystal Team is still alive and active and have just recently released a new feature ... a first in fact for PS2 mods ... In Game Reset (IGR). Hopefully this trend will continue and I predict even better things to come from the CC team in the near future.

I'd also like to see a VGA output option like the MI chips have, but I'm also not sure how compatible the VGA output is on the PS2 - and you need to build/buy an adapter. Having an on-chip HD Loader program would be a big plus too (like Toxic OS).

After having multiple issues with the DMS4 chip and bad crystals, I'll definitely be looking at the CC chip for my next mod.

@raiderj

Yes I too wish they would incorrect an HDL type of feature into Boot Manger. I however dont think they will ever do this when HDL is already a great app and can just be installed to the MC, HDD, or USB drive and booted through Boot Manager.

They have made mention of the VGA stuff in the past. Hopefully they can figure it out.

Getting back to my post, is the Mars Pro modchip good? It works in my PStwo, but I've read is somewhat cheap. It has no added functionality AFAIK.

Unless you have a need for the extra features .... as long as the chip is working for what you need it to do, I don't see a real problem using especially since its already installed. If you had no chip in it I might recommend otherwise.
