I have been having problems putting movies, even under 4.3 gigs, on to a single dvd. If i do, they usually start skipping towards the end of the movie, even when playing back in my computer. If i break the film into two parts this usually resolves the issue. I am using ritek g03 discs so i dont believe it is the media. This is sometimes also the case even when i do split the film. What the hell is going on here?

What method and program are you using to burn the movies?

I use DVD Shrink to crop the movie usually at the halfway point if i need to split it. I then use Nero to burn it. I tried burning under dvd video and dvd (udf/iso) and both had the same results.

my dvd burner is a pioneer dvr-104 that came stock with my vaio. I have gotten a few movies to play through fully, but it seems to be random and unlikely.

The DVD player is good. It may be a Nero problem. Download the trial version of Record Now deluxe from the user guide section of the website listed in my Signature. Try it.

The other thing to try is the burn speed. If you are writing at 4X try dropping it down to 2X.

I know how you likely don't want to waste discs, but you'll want to try one of the same movies that were giving you trouble. Once you get everything working it'll be worth it.

Its not the burn speed because i always burn at 1x. Right now i am trying to burn spun onto one dvd with record now max after compressing it with DVD Shrink. Its 4.36 gigs so i should be able to see if the end of disc problem reoccurs. I am using a fuji film rw so i won't have to make a coaster if it doesnt work.

It might be useful for you to check your firmware revision as well. www.firmware-flash.com .I assume you have Nero 6 or 5xx whatever and are using the dvd-author plugin aswell? Try updating firmware too. This solved a prob for me before.

I had a wierd problem with dvdxcopy express. Some discs just wouldnt play in my buddies dvd player, but all of them would play in mine. I than got the new update for dvdvxcopy and all of the discs I burn now, including the ones that wouldn't play before, burn now. ?????

You think that the media manufactures and the dvd player companies would have gotten on the same page by now. Just crazy.

the dvd-rw i just burned works on my computer fine which is an improvement. The same video_ts folder burned with Nero would freeze at the end even in my computer. I cant test the rw in my dvd player, but hopefully just a dvd-r should be the exact same as the rw, right? Otherwise it would have to be the media wouldnt it??

not neccicelery,

power dvd has played numerous rips of mine fine on the pc, but my standalone player just wouldn't take them.

I was fortunate enough to find a media that works on both my computer dvd player and dvd standalone. That was after trying several disks though.

My best advice would be to update your Nero burning engine and firmware, and givver a whirl. Try to make sur you are not doing multi-tasking(lots of stuff on the pc) while you are burning and encoding. I found this often leads to pixelation. Hope that helps, ritek is a pretty solid media,

The dvd-r that i burned using record now did not play succesfully in my computer. It played the beginning but if i scrolled towards the end it locked up and said the disc might have been damaged as to inhibit playback. This is the reoccuring problem. Should i flash firmware?

I know many people on this board swear by DVD Shrink; including Oriphus. And he's probaly one of the most knowledgable people on this board.

Myself, I don't like it very well. Some movies I can see artifacts, which aren't there with other programs.

My method is this:

Rip with DVD Decrypter; selecting everything (freeware)
Compress with DVD2One (free 30 day trial)
Burn with Record Now.

You might want to give that a try. One of my stand alone players is old and fussy. (a 1997 RCA) and there's a lot that it won't play; but my backups with this method work on it about 98%.

I have had this problem with DVD Decrypter and dvd20ne as well. this leads me to believe that the problem lies somewhere else. but where??

Don't be so sure it's not the media. I used to get picture break-up. When I skipped through the chapters towards the end I could see it getting worse and worse. I tried so many different -Rs that I was sure my drive was faulty.

When I moved on to the more expensive Verbatims and Infiniti riteks the problem went away.

I bought the dvd-rs on ebay they were labeled riteks and i checked them with DVD Decrypter and they say they are riteks....should i try verbatim??

Let me see if I've got this; you titled this thread "Similar to 25 wasted discs...Not media problem"

Now you are telling us you've only tried the one type of media? Exactly how did you diagnose it not to be a media problem?

If you have a dual format drive you should try using +R's. I know a lot of people swear by their -R's, but personally I've had better experience with +R's. Just a suggestion.

I also used maxell discs when i first started trying. but the fact that the movie burned on a rw would play fine in my computer but the same movie done with the same process on a dvd-r freezes. Thats what makes me think its not the discs, i could be wrong and that is why i am asking for help.

Are you running any other programs like IE while burning?

Running programs and not running programs has the same effect with the dvd-rs.....if its on one disc they glitch up and freeze. When i burned the dvd-rw i was running programs and that burned and played perfectly on my computer whereas the counter part dvd-r did not.

If you are using ritek g03 media, this may sound kind of stupid but when a dvd player gets really hot, they skip dvd-r. It's true. That is why they skip towards the end of the movie. I put a fan on my sony. I have a sony and use ritek go3 and princos and when it gets hot, they skip. I am usually running the dvd player for 6-8 hours a day because of my kids, but this is the only solution I could come up with.

Make sure the player is well ventilated and cooled. Hope that helps._

The cooling thing might be true, I don't know, but if you get bad media it skips anyway. You can put your disc in, chapter skip through it and watch it getting worse and worse as you get further in. All in the space of 5 minutes.

Drumgod, I'm with you. I have two drives, a -r and a +r and I reckon I've had to throw away nearly half the -rs I have ever written due to read errors.
