Can you play backed up ps1 games on a modded ps2 or do you need to mod a ps1? Thanks.

if your ps2 is modded, the yes a burnt ps1 game will work on your ps2. ;)

If your PS2 is not chipped but you have a way to load a backup,
Slide card or flip top
thenm you can use a product called Breaker Pro
Or if you have a fat Ps2 you can use a memory card exploit and a program
called PSXLOADER.ELF
