I would like to know some stuff as I am adding up the cost to actually get a PS3.

1. Headset; will my PS2 mics work with it or do I need to get a bluetooth?

2. Tax; anyone know what the huge tax amount is? I had the amount before but I forgot it. I think it was somethin like $40-$60.

3. Games; whats out that is actually GOOD and worth the $40-$60?!

4. Hard drive; What kind does it use? Could I get the 20GB and switch the HD to a 60 without blowing all my money? This brings me to my next question,

5. Hardware; Is the extra hardware worth the extra $100?

6. Fatal problems; Is it worth the replacement policy? I still have my PSP from a couple years ago and its still fine. I only replaced my PS2 once because of that mass problem awhile back with the disk read errors.

7. Ventalation; As I say below, I leave my PS2 online alot and its in a semi enclosed space. Big or minor problem?

8. Stuff to look out for; Anything?

Thanks in advance for anyones help. Please, no bias towards stores companies(sony, such as microsoft fanboys), etc.

-EDIT, added question 7.

Doesnt expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected and therefore mean youre expecting the expected which was the unexpected until you expected it?

Games worth buying: Resistance:Fall of Man, Madden 07, NFS Carbon, Call of Duty 3.

Hard Drive: You can use any SATA 2.5" Hard Drive, you can get a 100gig on Newegg for about 100$,60gig for about 60-70$. But i say shell out the extra 100 for 60 gig PS3, you get WiFi, which is pretty great, but that sorta depends on you, where you'll be putting it and if youll be playing online alot.

Replacement Policy: My PS3 hasnt had any problems whatsoever yet. I leave it on for a good 2-3 hrs at a time, no problems. It comes with a 1yr warranty, but you could get an extended warranty if you want. I got an extra year, might go back and get another yr(toatal of 3) but it comes out quite expensive.

Thanks for your response. I would deffinantly play online alot if I get resistence. I have wifi at my home and I use it to play my PSP online. I sometimes leave my PS2 online overnight because I forget to shut it off before going to bed or im having a standoff with a jerk that wont respawn. So you could assume my PS3 would get left on for 8-12 hours straight sometimes. What about ventalation? My PS2 sits in a slot in my entertainment center that is about 12"(high) by 12"(wide) by 12"(long). Will I need a fan to circulate the air? From the left this is sorta how it looks:
-----------------
(space) <-PS2->
(space)<-shelf->
(cntrllrs n stuff)

2. If you're in the US, this will depend on your state's sales tax, ex. 5% sales tax * $600 = $30 tax
3. Resistance:Fall of Man

My PS3 has never been turned off since the day i bought it... (December 17,2006) i guarentee you... and guess what.. as long as the front and back vents are open.. your ps3 will handle anything..

When you get the hard drive get a sata 2.5" hdd with A 16MB BUFFER!

the extra buffer is supposed to speed up your load times ten fold.

I bought a ps3 with 100gb's and 16mb buffer and it's wicked sick! i got a extra 250gig external lying right next to it once the hd boot hack comes out.

I think im gonna get the 60GB and I'll consider the bigger HD later after the HD boot loader comes out and theres an FTP thing that will let me transfer 10GB+ files over(hey, I can barily afford the consle)

Thanks for everyones help. Anyone else got some input?

Get the 60GB, it has built in WiFi, AND A MEMORY CARD reader! I belive the sales tax in call is 8.9%! So it would be $about 54! How far north are you? I am in Washington so I just drove 50 miles south so I could get it in Oregon to save the sales tax!

The hard drive are 2.5 serial!
The headset will work!
Resistace Fall of Man
Go ahead and leave you PS3 on, it is a great heater, I havn't had any problems yet!

I would get it at Best Buy and get their 3 year replacement plan for another $99, great deal, if it dies get a brand new one!

I remember that it was a really high amount. I coulda swore it was $60, so that $54 sounds about right. Im near Merced so its a ways away to any state line.

I found alot at my local best buy yesterday but I didnt have money with me and I had to go to class and my last wasnt over til' 10P.M. I might get one very soon though if I get the permission to get resistence(the only game I really want now).

What I mean is, I think im only gonna get a PS3 if I can get permission to get resistence(believe it or not, I have to ask my parents). Otherwise, I might just wait til' better games come out like warhauk.

I just ran into my first problem with my ps3. So here's what happened, when i first got my ps3 i had it hooked up to my 42" HDTV thorugh HDMI, for about 3 weeks. Now my parents made me move it outta my family room, so now i tried hooking it up to my 27" SDTV oldschool Sanyo tv. So i put in the AV cables plugged in the ps3, power was working fine, but for some reason i had no picture(it was just a black screen, no XMB) i'm not sure if this is a problem with the PS3, the cables or the TV. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks!

You shoulda made that as another thread. However, I dont have an HDTV but I do have a 32" TV with Svideo in the living room and a little ~12" TV with regular video and audio left(mono, no right). I usually have to play on the stupid mini one but if I get a PS3 im gonna hook it up to the main TV.

Before you moved the TV did you change the settings to Composite video instead of HDMI??? if not go back conect it via HDMI and change it to composite! You might also try to hold the powerbotton until the second beep to restore the factory defults and force it into composite video out instead of HDMI!
