i would edit your post and remove your email addresses.
That is against forum rules, not to mention the amount of spam you will start getting.
1. are you talking about the firmware for your PC's DVD Burner?
If so go to the following page and look for your exact model burner.
http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php you can also go to the site of the manufacturer for the burner as they usually have the most current "official" firmware.
to find your current version you can go here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_utility.php and get Mhsysstat.
2. DVD-R is a very compatible format, and if they work you have no reason to switch. DVD+R may work as well but the only way to tell is to try it. And only certain burners are able to booktype media, a way you can check is to start DVD Decrypter, have it in ISO Write mode, and look at your screen. You will see a little tan icon towards the bottom right that looks like a little book. click on that and look through the different tabs to see if your burner is listed, if it is this is where you can change the way it will booktype DVD+R, you would want it to booktype all DVD+R as DVD-Rom.
On an 8X Disc i would suggest that you burn your ISO files at 4X speed, seems to work the best for most people.
You can run a quality scan on a disc with programs like Nero (Nero Info Tool) or even a DiscInfo 1.55 which can be found on the same page as the link above for Mysysstat
flashing the firmware is as easy as downloading a small program and running it, but make 100% sure that you get the correct firmware update for your exact burner model.
If you are really unsure then post the maker and model number here and i am sure someone will be glad to look for you.
(example: Sony DRU-700A or BenQ DW1655)
