Are big game developers going to switch to Blu-ray? I really haven't looked into this myself, but I bet someone here has info on this. I have a dilemma with trying to figure out which system would be a better buy. I don't think that the playstation3 is all that much better than the 360, somewhat like xbox and playstation2. I just don't think that the playstation3 will be a winner though because of Blu-ray. Gaming companies might not want to spend the money on them because it's cheaper to make the DL-DVDs. I don't know I need to take a shower.

its a good idea to switch to blu ray tho. it gives game developers more space to basically do anything thing they want to put in. they jus need to come up with good ideas and graphic. no need to worry about space. like you see most xbox 360 games already take up a whole DL-DVD but they still have good graphics. but the blu ray has way more space so game developers can put more if they work hard.

Not many that i know off because as you go on this game get very hard the aliens get smarter they ambush you like 20 to 1....I still haven't beat it yet because i get pissed and cut it off for a few days.

Microsoft: Ps3 cant do 60fps on 1080p. Guess what they were WRONG!!!!!
(11/19/05 - 9/19/06) Microsoft: Sony's 1080p support on PS3 is all Hype and Not Needed.
(9/20/06) Microsoft: Xbox 360 to add 1080p support.

My point was that they were able to fit more data on it than a standard dvd to make the gameplay longer!

hey, have u guys played Test drive on the ps2
that's gonna be the longes game in the world. i spent 7 hours playing it, i bought a house with a garage that can hold 4 cars, i bought lots of cars and i had 6 medals but then i looked at the percentage and found out that i had only completed 4 percent of the games.
the games on the ps3 are gonna be the longes games ever and i just can't help wondering how longer and wicked gta is gonna be.

yes, and never will use HD DVD which is a good thing. i want to be able to backup games.

anyway huge space does give deveopler what ever they want in terms of size, butin teh end it's basically game length. They cant put riduclous details on it because of the system bottleneck, so reugular game details and bumpmaps... but a crap load more.

wait till next gen to see the full potential of high cap disc such as BD. what i mean by that is have a regular 20 hour game taking up 25 GB, that just says amazing details, characters, trees and such THAT can be utlized. which is what we want. Not what Bethesda is doing by duplicating same game info on different sectors of disc to bring it up to par with current load times on 360.

i think what i said is bascically raw 1080p game devoplment. Right now it's just not worth it- takes almost as much $$$ as a blockbuster movie to make.

We will also be able to have longer games... maybe 40hours of play... instead of 5 like gears of war! That game is awasome it is just so short!

So far, game length has'nt been affected by media space, it's development time. The dev's only have so long to make the games, so they can either make the game shorter and pack more thought and detail into level design / story / gameplay or whatever, or make it longer but less thought goes into each level. I agree with BurningAs, the extra media space is wasted b/c of the hardware bottleneck on the consoles, and with dev's learning new tricks like procedurally generating levels / music and new compression techniques, they save tons of space, I think the real benefit of the extra space is for packing in HD movies into games, which will be cool if they pack a bunch of unlockable content like making the game and such. Also, I'm sure if they really needed more space on the 360, more than 1 disk isn't out of the question, it worked well with MGS1.

yer, i agree burningas.
if any of you have seen the darkness, which is a game coming out on the ps3. there is a feature on the game that allows u to watch tv on real time, meaning if you turn the tv of in the game the program or the film you were watching is still gonna be playing. this new feature is the first true example of next-generation not including graphics.

actually i beat resistance in 2 game sittings. granted they were VERY long game sittings. I love that game. but about the original question, the 360 and especially Wii(obviously) will never have Blu-ray, and all ps3 games are in Blu-ray. The ps3 will be much better then the 360 once the software gets better, not at all like the analogy to the ps2 and xbox, ps3 is simply way more powerful then the 360, and using Blu-ray, developers have the space to take advantage of that.

yes it gives devlopers more space

bad news it takes twice as long to write games for blu ray becuase everything has to be digitally signed music graphics playability all of it so in the long run of things developers would rather program for the nintendo wii because it's shorter and they can get the games out quicker with the ps3 the console takes so long for games to come out because they have to program each game to each and every core in the processor which has 6 cores so think about this

1. 1-core to run sound

2 2-core to run controllers

3. 3-core to run cg

4. 4-core to run background detail

5. 5-core to run chracter design

6. 6-core to run maps for levels

now when ou have to produce a game with the much programing you have to higher more people to program which cost's more to the consumer which cost the company more and pretty soon youu will have nothing but a overpriced door stop

just think about it we are already paying 59.99 per game once the cost of programing games comes into play the games will start at 59.99 and go up to 100.00 or worse

The price's is solid on games now.Just think GOW just about max out 360 and system only been on the market 1 year.I promise you there will be no other game that surpass GOW on the 360.Look at the PS3 RFOM that game can pretty much run with any title 360 has to offer, yet its a launch title. If you own a 360 i would be very afraid because PS3 launch titles are running neck to neck with titles with a system that been on the market for a year now.Sony hasn't touch the surface with the Cell yet.

i don't think 360 owners have anything to be afraid, am a hugh fan of sony but 360 have really been doing well lately, i saw a ad few days a go of the game 'gear of war' on the 360 and i have to say i was very impress and the price of the 360 is already down to £199 i don't know how much dollars that is but its definitly less the 600. i think ps3 is gonna keep selling well but not as well untill the price drops.

Did you ever thing that that was cos Resistance fall of Man was harder then Gears Of War?.
Still doesn't make it a better game...

And as for this topic it doesn't matter about disc size, it matters about what the developers can do with the hardware.
Remember the disc is just a format hell if ps3 didn't have blu ray it could still do the same type of games.
