softmodded XBOX not loading games

Ok , i jus softmodded my old XBOX and as i opened it i saw its the samsung edition DVD drive, cool , so i tried to run a " philips " backup DVD - RW and sometimes it fails to run by saying " unknown disc ' but sometimes it runs perfectly. Wats up with the XBOX ? Cant decide weather to play which DVD ?
