PSP unable to transfer MP3 files

When I attempt to play an MP3 song I have downloaded from my computer it plays for about 3 secs and then I get an error message saying, "corrupt data". Does anyone have any info for this? Any help would greatly appreciated. My mom has let me get on here to ask questions so I can try to find an answer.

try using different format... e.g. wma

So if the songs were downloaded already as MP3 and can't be converted, I am SOL?

Yes, I use Real Player and it says the files can't be converted because the songs are protected.
