you should be able to manually set up the network. It will take a little networking knowledge but should not be that hard.
try this:
1. on your PC go to start->all programs->accessories->command prompt
2. when the box comes up type "ipconfig/all" without the quotes.
this will give you all your network info. Write down the IP address, default gateway, subnet mask and first two DSN addresses
3. now go to the options for the PS2 and find where those network settings are and enter the info you wrote down.
it may work and may not, each network is slightly different depending on your internet provider, and if you use a router.
Some networks are Static(manual) and others are DHCP(automatic)
Plus some routers need ports forwarded that the game will use.
and some PC's require you to set the main connection for network sharing so more than one device at a time can use the internet connection.

Very good advice, but it sounds more like he is wanting to use the HDA network feature to upload games to his HDD, this feature by the way was yet another stolen app that was created for the freeware community .... anyway.
If I'm right in this assumption I would recommend that you use winhiip with your PS2's HDD connected directly to your PC. The network way of installing back-ups to an HDD is very buggy and extremely SLOW!

well, if you are looking to install games as stated above then yes, the Winhiip method is a faster more stable transfer. And most likely a lot easier for you then setting up an FTP server between the PC and PS2.
If you are looking to play games online you can try my advice, or even go to the official Sony Playstation site which has guides for setting up everything.

You can burn ULE to a disc and have it boot with the proper configuration files. ULE has its own FTP server which you can use an FTP client to connect with over Ethernet. If you have a modchip with dev1 mode you can install the ULE ELF file to mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF and have your modchip execute ULE in dev1 mode with out the need for any discs in your console at all. You can do many other things from ULE like launch other ELF apps like HDL and SMS as well as manage files on your MC, HDD and USB pen drive. You can even browse .jpg's you have uploaded to your MC,HDD or USB drive with ULE. ULE also has a HDD manger tool which will allow you to make partitions on the PS2 HDD as well as format it. ULE is really the ultimate in PS2 file mangers ... its even better then Sonys own PS2 browser, even in regards to managing game saves. For more info on ULE and its official support forum have a look here

@Stiemy I dont think by "stuff" he means "games" but I could be wrong.
You can also look here for even better info on the exploit and other no-mod solutions.

Shadow321,
list the connection settings on your PS2 and the PC
Also if you use a router (what type) and if it is wireless.
