Just bought a new HP burner for my computer. Installed pretty easily. Seems to be reading everything fine and burning CDs with no problem, so I'm assuming the whole master/slave setting is right. My problem is with video clips from the internet. Sometimes, they'll burn just fine. Other times, a hour-long clip, for instance, will take like three hours to burn; then, it will say it wasn't burned successfully. While it's burning, it'll slow down my computer to near death. What gives?????

First, make sure the drive is setup to operate in the faster DMA mode, if not, enable it.

Here's a guide if needed

Second, since the burner is new, it's firmware is most likely old, this can greatly affect read/write performance so you should make sure it's upto date.

Here's a handly utility that will check and display want firmware version is currently installed.
http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/DVD-CD_firmware_detect.exe

Once you know what you have, click on this link and enter the model# of your drive to search for and update if one is available.

If an update is available, just click on the new version to download the file, then run it to apply the update.
