I have been reading these forums for at least a month now trying to figure out how to work this i bought Swap Magic 3.6 and made a Slide Tool from the Slide tool guide on this forum. My PS2 is unmodded i have a Original Swap Magic 3.6 Dvd and CD versions, i have HDloader Freeware version that seems to have HDloader and alot of other programs. Just yesterday i found a SNES Emulator and thought id get out the Swap magic discs and give it a try and to my amazment i got it to work so it revilatized my interest in this again...(generally i was thinking swap magic was a hoax since i bought it 2 months ago and just gave up after wasting so many discs) i have gone thro alot of posts and trying alot of things... ok here is what i want to do i want to playing backups off of my 40G Maxtor HD and no matter what i do i cannot get my Ps2 to Recognize my HD... ive used Hard Drive Killer to Zero out my HD then Reformatted it using WinhIIP v1.7.6... ive looked on the Compatibility lists of known Usable HD's and mines was listed.. i even tried using the Utility disks that come with pc and the Utility disk that comes with FFXI (used to have FFXI with hard drive bundle but it got damaged in a fire DOH!) please someone help me thanks in advance i will try to check here regularly and give updates if i make any progress

have you tried getting a copy of the newest HD Advance disc.
You you can find a site to "aquire" it, then you can burn it to a DVD and use Swap Magic to load it.
That may be able to format it while it is still in the PS2, plus you will need the newest version (3.0) to load games from your hard drive so you might as well sart the search now.

Hmm yeah this is strange are you sure you have the HDD set to master? I also wouldn't recommend HDA as its just a stolen version of the current patched HDL, look around to "acquire" this before HDA. I would also recommend a modchip over swap magic, but if its working for you good, it can be a pain in the butt though.

glad to see you got it working. Yeah, that whole master and slave thing can get a lot of people. Personally i hate the drives that use the 2 pin configuration. I have seen more than my share of people who install them in their PC and do not set it correctly, then can not boot their PC.

Personally I dont think they are a big deal as long as you realize what you have and know what your doing. But yeah they are one more thing to try and remember ... what a pain huh.
