Sorry to bother y'all, but I'm really hoping someone here can help me.
My PS2 will not allow me to save on Metal Gear Solid or Metal of Honor. In fact, the message says there is not a memory card in either slot one or slot two.
Well, I thought maybe my card had finally gone bad so I went to Game Crazy and purchased a new one... SAME PROBLEM.
I don't play games much anymore, but last time I tried to play Metal Of Honor it would not let me save... Then I played Tiger Woods and it DID let me save... Hence I thought my game was bad. Well, now that it won't save Metal Gear I know it's not the game and since I purchased a new memory card I'm sure it is not that, either.
Somebody told me I may need to "initialize" the card for certain games? I have no idea what this means and I don't remember doing it before. I used to save Metal Gear a few years ago with no problems. However, I no longer have any data for Metal Gear or Metal of Honor saved... only Tiger Woods and Hot Shots Golf.
I did format the new memory card, so that cannot be the problem either. The PS2 works perfect in every other way, so I don't know how it could be mechanical?
You might want to check the pins inside your memory card slots for any damage. If the system has been opened before, check the black ribbon cable that connects the console to the memory card/controller port.

Thanks for the info, guys.
I figured out I was trying to save PS1 games on a PS2 card... STUPID!
It's just been so long since I've played those PS1 games I forgot.
Lesson learned and at least there's no longer a problem... Picked up a used PS1 card at a Pawn Shop for $3.00.
I have the same problem apart from my game is a PS2 game, i tried saving Scarface to my memory card but it says there is no PS2 memory card in slot1/2 even though there is.. I tried something and it seemed to work, I loaded up Scarface using my Swap Magic DVD and I was able to save, I loaded Scarface using Zoneloader DVD and I was not able to save.. Now Scarface doesn't work for me properly using Swap Magic, it skips and freezes, but when using Zoneloader it works perfectly however I cannot save!
well yes, but its not really corrupt, its an .elf file which is saved to the PS2 MMC but ofcourse the PS2 does not recognise the file and so it is classed as corrupt data.

There are ways to make your own memory card icons so that the elfs in your MC don't appears as corrupted data. Google mcIconSysGen and bmp2icon
I have a similar problem with my memory card... I just bought a Playstation 2 for the first time. I've been playing Baldur's Gate on it and have 4 different games saved on the memory card - but the card still has a lot of available memory. When I try to play Champions of Norrath or Champions: Return to Arms, before I even get to the game I get a message telling me that the memory card does not currently contain any Champions data and I will need to initialize it to continue. I have always clicked "cancel" at this point because I figured initializing the card would erase everything else currently saved on it.
I could buy a separate memory card to use exclusively with the Champions games, initialize it and see if that lets me in. But I'm curious to know whether anyone has any ideas about why this might be happening and what I should maybe do about it.
