swapping dvd drive from one x360 to another..bad idea?

Hi all my mate has taken his dead dvd drive out of his x360 and swapped it with a dvd rom drive from a new xbox 360 its a samsung drive, he says it some times does not eject properly but can this drive be flashed as its not in the original x360?

Or not a good idea?

Appreciate any advice.
