I came home today to find the no server page listed on my internet browser for the first time since purchasing high speed internet. I, like many, am a bit torrent user. Recently I purchased a PS2 and a few games. I am trying to gain proficiency in backing up games and recently ordered a larger hard drive and a dvd burner to allow myself to do so. I bought soul calibur 2 and decided to try downloading the game via torrent so that I could try burning it via cd-r. I've discovered that the game is too large for me to place on cd-r after unzipping. Upon speaking to my internet rep I was told that the copyright owner had logged onto the tracker and copied all of the ip addresses. They then sent a complain letter to the internet providers of these addresses. My rep was friendly but told me if it happened again it would be a longer suspension and that this is becoming a more common method of game and media owners. My question is whether it is safe to continue what I did or is there a good way to keep this from happening again. I have heard of IP spoofing but know little about it or whether it would be effective. Thanks for any help as always.

Well I have done some research and it appears that there are ways to do this. My question now is will using a proxy keep anyone from tracking my IP and prefereably my ISPs IP address as well. I suppose I should mention that the site the torrent was from was mini_nova. If there is a program that will help hide my address that would also be knowledge I would be appreciative for.

Hi!
When using a bittorrent client you simply can't hide your IP adress (There are several programs that can hide your IP like hideIP platinum but these wont work here). But anyways i think you should use a program called peer guardian 2 (its available on the official website and its free). This program blocks connections from unwanted IP-s so you wont be monitored by these people. Of course I'm not 100% sure about this but better then nothing :)
As for your first question... I dont know if using a proxy can fully hide your IP but I know that they are very slow, you will never finish downloading a PS2 game believe me :)
I also have a question: if you really bought the game then why download it? If you want to make a backup there are several easy ways...

Tell your ISP to edited by ddp and go else where, Im on telewest which dont care how much you down/up per day, let alone a month. Im sure there are others out there with more relaxed policies.

Whilst shopping around use peer gaurdian, as stated above.

If and when you do make the change be sure to let your current ISP the reason for going else where.

I downloaded the game to get familiar with the type of format that people tend to use. It seemed easier to do that since I have never burned a dvd before. I will have to try peer guardian 2 and be a bit more careful overall. Thanks for the help GaMer.
