I'm working with the new cladDVD .NET 3.4.0 but I'm having this problem with all rippers which leads me to believe it's a system or video setting.

I have a DVD of good quality that I would like to back up onto DivX, with the 5.0.3 codec. The codec works fine, and I know how to work my way around in VirtualDub. My problem is when I rip the DVD, whenever there is motion it strobes, in what looks like scalines. For instance, in this animated DVD, there's no motion except for mouths. When they talk their mouths have this strobing scaline problem. So does any motion in the DVD. Strobing, and horizontal lines (scalines). That's the only way I can explain it. It happens during playback on PowerDVD as well.

I'm running:
Windows2000 SP4
GeForce4 MX 440
Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-115

None of which are "top of the line" but not at all bad enough to cause this problem because of performance. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, please help!

Hi!
Well you have to use Deinterlace filter to get rid of these lines. Try doing these:
-At DivX codec setting search for a check box with the name Deinterlace. I haven't got 5 but in 4.12 it's called like that.
-Use DVDx for ripping and select Interpolate at Deinterlace filter at Input Options. Click the link below at my signature to read the guide and find out where it is.

Couple of questions:

When you run the VOB files through DVD2AVI does video type report it as interlaced?

Why are you still using 5.03?! Just kidding, but in all seriousness, 5.03 is very buggy, you should upgrade to 5.05.

Now about your problem, is this dvd an anime?
If it is then it was most likely telecined. I suggest using the Inverse Telecine function in vdub. Or do as afonic suggested and use a deinterlacing filter.

Life is but a dream...so wake me up already!!!
