on which one(s) are best.. and which ones to avoid. Checked another site but the info seems a bit old as the number#1 burner was Plextor 12/10/32A which has been out for some time. Will keep trying to search on this site also.

thanks in advance for all your help.

I just upgraded my burners ( 3 ) and I bought the new Samsung CDRW/DVDplayer cheaper than I could buy a straight burner, but I live in Australia

I just purchased the LG 8240B and it looks pretty good. The best feature that I liked was that it could automatically adjust the write speed depending upon the medium. (I think its called FailFree technology). So I just choose the max speed and the writer adjusts the speed automatically.

The newest LG 48X also supports Mt Rainier and UDMA2. Its good on the price factor also.

I personally will not buy anything else than genuine Plextors. Great quality, best audio performance. Recently Lite-On has gained a lot of popularity and positive comments too.

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

I kind of boiled it down to Plextor and Lite-On...From the info that I got the major difference was the fan for the Laser that LO does not have and the ability to copy SafeDisc2 that Plextor does not have. Being that you like Plextor I assume you have one, do you have any problems with SafeDisc2.
To be quiet honest I dont even know what SafeDisc2 is....

SafeDisc 2 is one of the more advanced copy protections. Drive's ability to handle it is only significant if you are backing up game originals. (You can naturally patch the game and then you dont need SD2 "support"). To me the reliability of Plex audio extraction is worth a lot more.

I have 3 Plexies. UltraPlex 32 SCSI cd-rom, something like 3,5 years old (runs STRONG!), A Plex 4220 SCSI writer coming to the age of 3, and a newer TDK CyClone 121032 (aka Plex 1210).

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

Thanks..
I'll take your advice and purchase a Plextor40/12/40...I've been checking out a site and it seems that the black cost more than the white could this be true.

$124 PLEXTOR PX-W4012TA/SW 40x12x40 CD-RW - OEM
$134 PLEXTOR PX-W4012TA-BPS/BLACK 40x12x40 CD-RW - OEM

or am I missing something??
