Cheat usage in memory card saved game

I have recently downgraded my PSP,
but I'm not so sure if I should use cheat code or even cheat device (such as VCS cheat device 2.0a) on ISO games, Vice city stories for instance
because some my friends told me that if i activate cheats, not only the memory card breaks but also the PSP.

Could some confirm to me if that is the case or tell me an alternative.

I desperately want to play Vice City
