having trouble updating star view box does it have to be connected to your cable supplier and to your tv

If you mean you are having trouble updating the flash file, then no. Connect it to your PC with a NULL MODEM cable and the Starview in STANDBY.

Tried everthing just keep getting flash update failed confused

You probably have the wrong type of lead, you need a NULL MODEM cable.
