he should upgrade to firmware 3.03 then downgrade to 1.5 and then upgrade to custom fw 3.03 OE-X
you can find the 3.03 downgrader and 3.03 OE instaler on qj.net or on psp-hacks.com
Ones he has the 3.03 OE he can play ISOs from memorystick and use hombrew
