Hi All,

Just bought a 4GB Sandisk card from an Amazon seller in the UK. The card has 4Gb disk space but seems a little slower then my Sony 1GB which is an original.

Question is do fake cards have 4GB capacity? If so how can I tell if it?s fake? I've had a 2gb fake which had a 1.2gb capacity...

Just a bit suspicious with all the fakes around!!!

Ta!

Chances are that Sandisk is not a fake if you bought it from Amazon... I've never had any problems with them. I myself both a 4GB SanDisk from Amazon U.S. and it works fine... reports as 4GB and I personally can't tell any difference speed wise... but that's just me.

Nope thats rounded down.
Asked my uncle (X mircosoft programmer) he said 1024mb.
More proof http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-rep...cfm/270060.html

Plus you know the saying 32 times the standed card(32mb)
well 32*32 = 1024

Dont worry you learn something new every day, i do.
Well the contanir mine came in said 1gb ,but the psp says 989mb

What i belive is happening is sony is installing some files on our sticks, and we cant access them there from missing mb.

Or the factorys are making mirstakes big time.
Or its a psp protection thing to stop you getting 1 gb games on your memory stick.?

Something like that.

I just got my system infromation up on my pc it says
Total Physical Memory = 1,024.00 Mb
Guess that says it when my Physical Memory is 1gb

LOL! I hope you learn something from this post because your information is all wrong.

For flash memory & hard drives, Kilobytes, Megabytes, and Gigabytes have ALWAYS been expressed as 1,000 bytes, 1,000,000 bytes, and 1,000,000,000 bytes respectively. This is purely by convention/definition and not based on binary math used in computers. Every single manufacturer in the world uses this convention.

On the other hand, RAM is expressed in terms of binary math so 1 GB of RAM is 1,024 MB of RAM.

In computer science, a bit is either 0 or 1. A byte is defined as 8 bits since early computers could only transmit 8 bits at a time and it was easy to refer to that as one unit, hence the byte was born.

In a decimal system like we have, 1,000 is 10^3... in binary math, the closest we can come 2^10 which is 1,024 and hence why there's 1,024 bytes in one kilobyte (KB... vs Kb which is kilobit).

From there, 1 megabyte = 1,024 bytes times 1,024 bytes or 1,048,576 bytes

And 1 gigabyte = 1,024 bytes times 1,024 bytes times 1,024 bytes or 1,073,741,824 bytes.

Of course, storage manufacturers chose not to use this convention to make their drives appear larger than it really is. By defining 1 GB as 1,000 MB (rather than 1,024 MB like a computer would define it), a 4 GB drive or memory stick actually has 3,906 MB of real storage as opposed to what it really should have, which is 4,096 MB... they're actually gip us almost 200 MB of storage.

So while you're correct in that it should be that 1 GB = 1,024 MB for storage, it really is not be industry convention. Remember though, this doesn't apply to RAM, even though flash memory is non-volatile RAM.

OMG! The storage industry killed the true megabyte! Those bastards!

1mb = 1048576
1gb = 1073741824
1tb = 1099511627776

Yes see you learn something new every day thanks for clearing that up for me.
I think after gb is tb so is that tb = 1099511627776 btyes

HI
Format the card in a PC to FAT not FAT32 will work a lot faster and will work as a 4gig had same problem. Formatted in the psp it was formated to FAT32 read speed was 2 MB/s formated in PC to FAT read speed 11Mb/s try it nothing to lose.
To check connect psp to pc go to my computer click on drive and look at left of screen will say either FAT or FAT32
Look for a psp speed utility called blackspeed run before and after will see if it is working ok
