Hi,
I have the slimline ps2 and swapmagic 3.6.
I have backed up a couple of games recently and tried them but got a weird problem. The lens moves to the outside of the disc and makes a dreadful clicking sound and the game doesn't proceed and it just continues to make this awful clicking sound with the lens staying in the same place.
Other games that have been backed up work fine.
I backed up using DVD+R media as have always used and burned at low speed using Alcohol 120%, again as have done for ages.
Any ideas anyone? thank for any help.

the bars that the laser is placed on are running out of lube and are causing friction.you've got to use molytone grease(best thing) dont use WD40 because doesnt work...

If you need help taking your slim apart try youtube there are some videos on there that companies even show to their employees on how to take apart and reassemble a slim. I have done this many times and trust me it is extremley simple too do just make sure to go slow so that you don't pull any ribbons. Also remember when putting it back together the slim works like a hinge on the front so put the top case over the power button and memory card bays then close the back side down like a hinge.

You've recently gotten your PS2 set up with the keys and a copy of Swap Magic discs? If it's only been that short of a time, could always try rebuilding the game. I've had a similar problem where the lens would try to read near the outer rims of the disc where some of the data was burnt onto the disc, but it wouldn't read any further because either you need to do a TOC refresh or rebuild the game as I've previous said. As for someone mentioning grease to be used, I never needed such a thing though it could also be a problem too. Good luck with it.

Hi Guys,
thanks for the replies.
I have been using this set up for a couple of years now and it seems that most games work fine but recently I have had problems with the clicking sound on the outer area of the disc. I have burnt some more than once with exact same problem. I always get partially loaded or in the title sequence and then can't go on.
I also get issues when a backed up game will stutter on graphics or just semi freeze.
Do I just grease the bar a little then (the long bar that holds the laser in place?).
Thanks again - your help is much appreciated

try a little first on the 2 bars that the laser moves on.if that corrects the problem the nyour ok.if its not as loud but still doesnt work try some more.remember dont use any kind of grease and certainly not wd40.use a q-tip on the bars with molytone grease, cooking oil or any other lubricant.

undid the ps2 only to find piece of plastic had got into it. I think it was a plastic clip that you use as a tool in the small hole. This was obviously stopping the laser on the runner.
Thanks for the help - problem fixed - I hope!!
