I have a 16x Lite-On Dvd rom and it only rips at about 1.5x This makes it take like an hour to rip the dvd. It used to go 10x a long time ago. No it wont go much more than 1x. I have tried forceaspi, I have tried other dvd rippers such as dvd decryptor. But I still get only 1x. I usually try not to ask for help and find out on my own, but I am stumped. If you have a solution, I will kiss your feet. Thank you

Remove your email address before spammers get hold of it. Did you try ASPI 4.71, since ForceASPI is wondows 98. Is that what you use?

umm, new to this site I dont know how to remove my email address from the thread, sorry! Um and yes I am pretty sure I already tried ASPI 4.71. I will give it another try though. Any other ideas? I was looking through the forum trying stuff other people posted about speeding up dvd ripping. So far nothing has really helped. One thing got it to go to 2x but it would range from 1.7x to 2x which I consider no improvement. Help Please!!!

Try changing you DMA settings in device manager, to either PIO or DMA, depending on what it is set at originally.

No probs, DMA is supposed to be faster, but can balls up the system for some strange reason. I had mine on PIO, it worked great. I now have it on DMA, it also works great??? who knows.....

oh my GOD!!!!!!! That is b.s.!!!!! If that is the problem I am gonna be pissed. I did the same thing upgrade to windows media 9. oh if that is it, I am pissed... By the way I went to try PIO mode and it slowed down to 1.2 instead of 1.7x...So I went to try and change it back to DMA, and it says "DMA if available" then underneath it says "Mode:PIO mode" It wont change to actually use DMA mode. It just does PIO. Any way to force it to use DMA? probably not, thought I would ask though...

exactly. it doesnt make sense. Maybe that is the whole problem. Do you get what I mean though? I wont let you just use DMA, it's only "DMA if available." well, no ideas here. I guess I could just try reinstalling windows to revert back to windows media player 8. I'll just have to backup everything to my firewire. sucky...well ummm, I have no clue what else to do.

my apologies to jojo32 and Bill Gates, it seems by coincidence that the same time as I updated Media 9 my second hard drive (the one I use to backup my dvd's) decided to fail. It turns out after exusting ever other avenue including reformatting my C DRIVE that it was my second hard drive that is faulty, So I am sorry if you have also reformatted or reinstalled Xp my mistake.

I had same prob. to fix it I removed my dvd drive and the applicable IDE chanel using hardware manager. Then rebooted my computer and reinstalled both items and reset my dvd drive to DMA. Hope this helps

I think Ive got it figured out. It is all about the firmware. I could never figure out what to do, so I tried it. It bumped my speed from 1x to 8x-9x. I guess that is the best I can get. If anyone knows how to get ripping speed at 16x, you are god and you need to tell me.
